Brian Purdy is a teacher and youth mountain bike instructor dedicated to experiential education programs for youth. As a Miller School of Albemarle alumnus, Brian benefited from a secondary school education that provided opportunities for hands-on learning as well as mountain biking. He was a varsity member of MSA’s internationally recognized cycling team. During his senior year, he began to transition from a racer to a coach through a unique student-coaching opportunity. During this time, he found a passion for skills instruction, bike mechanics, and coaching.

Outside of cycling, Brian graduated with a B.A. in Business from Bridgewater College, and he works with small businesses on marketing with digital media. While still in school, Brian also apprenticed as a cabinetmaker, establishing woodworking as an ongoing passion in his life.

After years of coaching, he earned his Professional Instructor License with PMBIA and maintains a Wilderness First Aid certification. Due to his eagerness to create mountain biking as a safe and effective learning tool, he works as Race Director for both VAHS and NICA Virginia mountain bike series, giving students all over Virginia a way to compete and participate in exciting race events. Brian can also be found coaching and directing Cutaway Bike Camp.
