SEVEN RIVERS MOUNTAIN BIKE TEAM MAKES HISTORY
In 2025 the National Interscholastic Cycling Association announced that it was introducing 5th Grade to its existing middle school and high school programs. When Seven Rivers learned the news, the mountain bike crew was ready for the challenge. After a fall of racing on the same courses as high school and middle school riders, the Seven Rivers elementary school team made history as the first team champions of NICA’s 5th Grade Category. The team competition allowed every rider to contribute to the overall success of the team.
In addition to the 5th graders, Seven Rivers had students racing in the middle school (grades 6-8) division.
Equally important to the team’ success, every rider gained confidence and fitness training and racing. Every race was full of individual success stories—first-time podium finishes, clearing sections of trail for the first time, and supporting teammates with cheers and encouragement.
The team will continue riding through the fall and winter to prepare for the VAHS MTB Series in the spring. For this series, the entire school is eligible to race, so the Seven Rivers team will be in full force.
