Hard Work Pays Off
Hard work pays off.
This saying has grown in popularity in the last few years as a mantra for the power of work in building character and resilience. Matt Frazier, 5x CrossFit Games Champion, has developed an entire clothing line and training philosophy that pushes the ethos that in the end, the only thing that matters is giving it your all. Simply put: Hard Work Pays Off.
At Seven Rivers Country Day School, hard work is a feature, not a bug, in the system. So much so, the beginning of the year “back-to-school night” was built around an all-day community work day and picnic. Families from across grade levels rallied at the schoolhouse to replace a broken playground, build bike racks, dust window sills, spread mulch, etc.
Coming together as a community to accomplish something bigger than we can by ourselves is a feature of the Seven Rivers Experience. Every day we ask the students, and ourselves, to work hard for the sake of the hard work. Not for some extrinsic reward or accolade but simply to make the world a slightly better place.
Teaching students the power of hard work at a young age is a building block to being a resilient and well-adjusted citizen in high school and into adulthood. It's a potent message when parents lead by example and I can promise you, the kids notice. We have already seen the ripple effects in our daily lives at the schoolhouse as students pick up trash, build trails, and clean up after themselves. These actions don't scratch the surface of the pride they have when they position their bike in a rack that they built.
